Frequently asked questions.

How big are your bars of soap?

All of our standard bars of soap will weigh at least 5 ounces. Due to the hand-crafted nature, bars may weigh more.

How do you make your soap?

All of our soap is made using a hot-process. This means we combine oils (fats) and goat’s milk/water/other liquids with lye (sodium hydroxide). During the cooking process, a chemical reaction, called saponification, occurs. During this, the lye and oil molecules have combined and chemically changed into soap and glycerin. Fragrance oils and colorants, like micas and activated charcoal, are then added and the end result is a beautiful bar of soap! SCIENCE!!!

How do I store my soap before use or between uses?

Your lovely new bars of Piney River Soap Company soap have been allowed to cure for at least 4 weeks. This allows for maximum water evaporation resulting in a firmer, longer-lasting bar of soap. Soap should be stored in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Soap should be allowed to dry between uses and using a soap dish with drainage may be helpful. As an alternative, we offer hand-crafted, crocheted soap savers.

Why should I use homemade soap?

Our soaps start with ingredients from nature: olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, almond oil, etc. We do not use any petroleum-derived detergents or preservatives that are commonly used in commercially made soaps and can be drying to your skin. When you understand that what you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body, choosing products with less ingredients makes sense.

Do you accept returns/exchanges?

Soap is a personal care item. As such, concerns for safety and contamination will not allow us to accept returns/exchanges for soaps once they have been shipped to a customer. Please review your purchase before final checkout. Orders cannot be canceled once they have shipped. If you have questions concerning your order, please use the “contact” option.
